Sunday Reflection (20. 03. 2022) – Sunday Reflection: No Time Like the Present

Though we can’t change the past and the future is unknown, we can enjoy God’s presence today.

To get the most out of this devotion, set aside time to read the Scripture referenced throughout.

When we’re recovering from hurts or mistakes, some people will tell us to forget the past. “There’s no way of changing it,” they say, “so why worry about it?” Other well-intended people will tell us to focus on the future. But the truth is that we need to consider our past, present, and future if we want to build our life in a healthy and balanced way.

Let’s consider the present. It’s true that we can’t change the past, but we can be forgiven for it (1 John 1:9). And we don’t know what the future holds. That’s why it is essential for us to be aware of sin in our life, which can hamper our communion with God and cause our new foundations to be shaky rather than strong.

It’s also important to have realistic expectations for ourselves—if we accept only perfection, we’re bound to be disappointed, and discouragement will set in. Rather than give up, we must take our frustrations and fears to Jesus, the One who is with us every single moment.

Think about it

• Read Matthew 7:24-29. Is Christ your solid foundation, or are you building on something else—something that will not hold fast in times of trial?
